A downloadable map-game

You are a wanderer travelling through the wasteland left after the Collapse of the mighty civilisation that came before.

On your way, you pass the ruins of the time before—monuments to the principles and beliefs of the pre-Collapse people, their hopes, arrogance, follies… or just the broken hulks of their machines and palaces.

With little else to do, you spend a little time exploring each one, drawing sketches, naming these dead places, taking notes on what you find. After all, those people built these things for a reason. Maybe you can find out what they were trying to say. What they were trying to tell you.

Stone Words Walk is a 1-player, rules-light, ground-level world-building game. You'll create the monuments of the past, not from an all-seeing bird's-eye view but from the viewpoint of a person wandering among the ruins and filling a journal with what they see.

The game comes in two accessible formats: an HTML file with built-in display controls (colour themes, font, etc.) and an EPUB file.

Stone Words Walk was partly developed during the “dungeon23” design challenge in 2023. The earlier devlogs include a lot of play-throughs, but creating islands instead of monuments.
